SEO writers help people seeking information through search. For listings in Japan, establish whether tasks include keyword selection, research, outlining, writing, uploading or updating. The label guarantees neither higher fees nor rankings. Distinguish employee vacancies from freelance projects.
For general search routes and checking the contracting party, see Finding Freelance Writing Projects in Japan: Listing Checks and an Application Example (Japanese). Here, the focus is understanding SEO-specific requirements and showing relevant ability through a sample. SEO writing is a purpose or set of tasks within web writing, rather than an automatically higher-paid, separate category.
Match requirements to evidence
Requirement | Evidence you can show | Question before applying |
|---|---|---|
Reader questions | Reader situation and problem | Are keywords and audience supplied? |
Outline | Headings and their order | Who approves the outline? |
Research | Primary sources and checking notes | Are paid sources or expert reviewers available? |
Writing | An answer with conditions and support | Style rules and character counting? |
HTML or CMS | Headings, tables and links | Upload scope, images and publishing permission? |
Updates | Outdated facts and proposed changes | Which pages and reference date? |
Measurement | Period, metrics and your contribution | Data access and reporting scope? |
An editor may supply keywords and an approved outline. Confirm your tasks before estimating time. Compare compensation with scope in How to Compare Writing Project Rates in Japan: Scope, Fees and Time (Japanese).
Plan an answer for the reader
Google’s helpful-content guidance encourages useful, reliable content for people. Check original explanations, accuracy, descriptive titles, sources and information about who created the work. It does not provide a fixed article length or keyword count that guarantees a ranking.
When reviewing search results, identify unresolved questions rather than rearranging competing headings. If you have not examined results, label reader assumptions honestly.
A fictional practice sample: choosing a desk for home work
This is a self-directed sample design, not a client assignment, search-result study, product review or ranking achievement. The imagined reader is choosing a first desk for a small room. The question is what to measure and check before buying.
Element | Sample plan |
|---|---|
Working title | What to Measure and Check Before Choosing a Home-Work Desk |
Answer | Compare the location, equipment, chair clearance and product specifications |
Excluded | Product recommendations, health benefits and hands-on reviews |
Sources needed | The actual manufacturer’s specifications and instructions |
Own checks | Measure the space and equipment; record the conditions |
Outline
- Measure the location and the space needed to move around it.
- Plan where the monitor and work materials will sit.
- Check clearance for the chair and cables.
- Read the manufacturer’s dimensions, desktop details and load conditions.
Sample opening
Choose a home-work desk after checking where it will go and what you will put on it. A desk may fit inside the room while leaving too little space to pull out the chair or arrange cables. Measure the location and equipment, then compare them with the product dimensions, usable desktop area and manufacturer’s stated conditions. Dimensions alone do not establish comfort. Check assembly and return conditions before purchasing.
Source and uncertainty notes
For an actual product comparison, record the product name, official source URL, document version or checking date, and relevant specifications. Establish whether overall dimensions differ from the usable desktop area and what conditions apply to a load limit. This example selects no product and therefore supplies no invented specification figures. If an application requires product comparisons, complete them using real official documentation.
Label the sample as practice and identify your contributions. Reader questions, heading choices and checking notes demonstrate your process.
Present evidence without inventing results
An unmeasured practice article cannot support a claim that you increased traffic. You can show the article and how you created it. When reporting results from published work, check permission to access and disclose the data, the period, metric, your tasks and other changes made at the same time. Do not attribute every change to the writing.
For updates, explain concrete issues such as incorrect specifications or unanswered questions. Consider permitted customer feedback alongside rankings. Approval processes are covered in Writing for Company-Owned Media in Japan: Briefs, Interviews and Editorial Work (Japanese).
AI and publication checks
Follow the client’s AI rules. Confirm permission before entering unpublished information or personal data into an external tool. A person must verify generated facts and sources, similarities to existing works and rights for quotations and images. The Agency for Cultural Affairs’ AI copyright checklist helps assess issues; it does not guarantee that every use is lawful.
Google’s generative-AI content guidance also makes creating useful value relevant. Mass-producing pages without useful value is not a substitute for a portfolio. Before submission, check the answer, primary sources, dates, conditions and whether the title accurately describes the text.
A short application example
This fictional example must be adapted to your actual experience, capacity and skills.
Dear [company or publication contact],
I am applying for your freelance SEO article project. My attached desk-selection guide is a self-directed sample. I created its audience assumptions, outline, text and source-checking notes. It is not commercial work or a ranking achievement.
I can handle research, outlining and writing. I would like to review your CMS and instructions before confirming upload work. My available capacity is [actual monthly hours].
Could you confirm supplied keywords and materials, outline approval, test payment and publication use, revision scope, deadlines and payment dates?
[Name]
Use MHLW’s contracting guidance and the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ manuscript contract example when recording scope and rights. Match each listing’s requirements rather than assuming that a qualification or personal blog alone establishes eligibility.
